Your wedding your way – it’s going to be outdoors!
Weddings in the UK must be in a licensed building and that building must have a roof and a solid structure. So how will you get the outdoor wedding you crave?
The answer is to legally marry beforehand in a register office but see it as just doing the ‘paperwork’. If you don’t want this to feel like your wedding, then simply don’t invite anyone. You only need two witnesses and they can be literally anyone. Then, you simply go ahead and arrange your wedding in the usual
way, and, as far as your guests know, the wedding hasn’t happened yet, and this is the real thing.
Then your real ceremony and celebrations can follow, in whatever way you choose. The venue can be anywhere, a castle, a hilltop, in woodland, wherever you wish. You will need the services of a celebrant to conduct the ceremony, and read your own vows. What you will get is a beautiful wedding. Being surrounded by nature makes the actual ceremony feel so much more special, whether its woodland, flowers, your own garden, cliffs or the beach, there’s an earthy, natural element to outdoor wedding venues that simply cannot be recreated indoors.
However, there are things to consider with outdoor wedding venues. In high summer it will generally be warm, but this is UK and it can equally be just a little chilly.
There’s also the rain aspect, which is the biggest worry. A back up plan is essential, think about what are you going to do if it does rain or if we’re in the middle of a heat wave?
The other issue is likely to be sound. The outdoors may simply carry your voices away, and spoil the intimacy of the occasion, if no one can hear you take your vows. Think about the possibility of clip on microphones and a sound system.
If these two potential hazards can be thwarted that opens the floodgates for all sorts of different outdoor weddings, so let your imagination run wild!
